Got up early this Saturday to make another attempt in bringing a bird home. I've been pretty well beat up this season with birds.

Had a miss at the Wolf River WMA with my 20Ga so I've been toting the ole 12ga ever since.

A buddy and I have been going to this bottom field that is about 100-200 yards from the roosting area. The gobble their heads off but pitch down and go a different way each time.

We decided we were gonna set up at this one spot where they are always crossing at. Oh course as we are set up and waiting for daylight to break we hear them gobbling and they are in the smae place and we were thinking they were gonna go to the field since we were not there.

Well we decided to stay put and I'm glad we did. I saw a white head pop out from the tree line about 30 yds to the Right of the decoys and it turned and went right back into the woods. I was thinking he was scared off by the decoys or was circling around to come from behind on the DSD jake decoy. Hoping for the later.

Sure nuff... About 15 minutes later he showed up 50-60 yds behind the decoys and strutted the whole way in.

Shot him at 25 yards. 9 inch beard, 1 inch spurs, and 21.40LBS

Sure did make all the effort worth while to tote one home.

I have some birds that are doing the EXACT same thing. It is VERY frustrating.

Congrats on breaking the jinx.

How many gobblers do you think are in the bunch?

762,

You proved yet again the #1 rule of turkey hunting PAITIANCE good job. Go hammer his brother :D

I've heard 3-4 birds gobbling in that direction but not certain how many there are.

The 1st week or 2 we were seeing birds with up to 16 hens each and there is a group of 4 jakes that have been running together. 1 I had fairly close and could see it had a double beard.
