I've hunted pretty hard the last 4 days. Should have killed opening morning before 6:30, but a bad guess on my part put us on the wrong side of the birds. Since then, I haven't heard more than a handful of roost gobbles even though I know there are birds around. Fast forward to 3:00 this afternoon. Spotted one of these birds close to 8-900 yards in the back of a field. Before we could even get remotely close they were out of the field. Luckily for us, they didn't go too far into the pine thicket on the edge of the field. A crow got all excited as we were closing the gap and the lead bird kept gobbling letting us know exactly where he was. Finally closed the distance and called one time, and both gobblers and their hen came looking for us. 3-2-1 shoot and the show was over. Both 2 year old birds. Good end to an otherwise frustrating last 4 days.

nice! bird on the left looks MUCH bigger.... maybe just the camera angle

He was very noticeably larger. Really odd considering I'm almost 100% certain both birds were just two year olds, even though my bird (smaller bird) had slightly longer spurs. We guesstimated the bigger bird to weigh around 20 lbs and the smaller one probably only 16-17.
