Caught up to another one early this morning. This one started gobbling very early in the bright moonlight. It was deep in the roughest area around, had to go down about 900 ft in elevation and back up another 1000. Got close enough to watch him fly down with 2 hens. He strutted around and moved off away from me on the bench they were on. Wasn't interested in my calling at that point. I moved in to where he had been and called again. Didn't hear anything for a bit and then he gobbled above me. So I had to climb a bluff to get up there with him. Once I did that, I called again, he gobbled and worked in to 35 yards with the hens. Ended up getting him right above this old still site. Gun used: 11-87 20 gauge with Fed HW 7's 575 Carlson's choke. Calls used: Gooserbat Bacon and Halloran Metal Mouth.

You don't give these details the depth they deserve. Those ridges and gullies or whatever you call them are not for the faint of heart. I've gained mucho appreciation for those who hunt those areas primarily. A bird will sound off "just right there" but then you realize it's going to take 30 min or more to descend down and then make the climb back up to just get level with him.

Congrats on a well-earned bird!
