Had a productive but less than ideal opening day hunt. Birds were hammering on limb, and only about 4 gobbles the rest of the day.
At 8 my buddy had a nice tom cruise by him as I watched from across the field. He wasn't strutting or gobbling. Killed at 25 yards.
We then went to Waffle House to dodge the rain and eat. Came back an hour later and saw 3 birds out in a field. 2 toms. Snuch to about 80-90 yards of them but in the rain and all they wouldn't gobble or strut...just stood there.
I doubled back to the woods, snuck up to the field edge using a little belly crawl action and caught one easing down the field at about 15 steps.
Here they are:
Mine on the tailgate with the facelifted 870: Camoed it, added tru-glo sites, jelly head and hevi 6's. It killed quick and throws a lot meaner pattern than last year.
