I scouted a spot about a month ago, and found this one ridge I just knew a turkey would die on.

Sure nuff, he was roosted up there this morning, so I set up just off the edge of the ridge and gave him some light calling a few times over the span of at least an hour. He was strutting back and forth and wouldn't commit, I could only hear the drumming. I never heard hens with him, there was a bird farther away that I thought was the one with hens.

I had used the wingbone and tube call and after what seemed like forever, I pulled out a glass pot call and yelped a few times. A hen lit up and got sassy with me right away, turns out he had two hens with him.

Hens come to 30 yards and start preening. They never saw me. Camcorder battery died, I had to swap batteries while making sure hens didn't notice. They had no clue.

Gobbler is drumming nonstop back and forth, and I can't hardly catch a glimpse between the trees and terrain.

Finally I saw the fan facing me behind some trees, he turned and strutted into an opening, I could just see his head tucked up in half strut, but I put the red dot on his neck. He stuck his head up like a periscope and I shot him dead right there at 35 yards.

A guy I know from MS was hunting the same area, and he left to try another spot and texted me saying there were 9 trucks at the gate. I never saw a soul. Had to cross a ravine to get to my spot.

I just knew a bird would die on that ridge.
