I own an 870 12 ga and am planning to Turkey hunt this spring. I went two years ago a couple times with a buddy who was teaching me but we were unable to make a kill. I have now collected everything I need for a hunt but want a good quality choke so let's hear opinions! Thanks everyone

I would look at a patternmaster. Or maybe an Indian creek. It will probably all depend on the shells that you shoot. Some chokes will pattern better with different shells. Hope this helps, this is just my opinion.

If a 3" 870 I'd go with hevi-13 number 6's with Indian creek 0.665"
I'd expect 180-190 pellets in a ten inch circle at 40 yards

Sorry I didn't mention shot use. It's an express magnum 3". Shot use is undecided so I'm open to suggestions on that as well.

Will definitely check into this set up thanks

for the money i think longbeard shells are the thing to use, might take a couple different chokes to see which works best, for me a cheap primos tight wad does the trick in my winchester 1300

So unexpectedly went to Bass Pro today and pulled the trigger on the Indian Creek. After ADR reccomendation I couldn't find a reason not to buy. Was pricey but I'm only running one gun so I want it to be top notch!

I have done MANY choke/shell experimenting and the Indian creek 0.665" with hevi-13 6s was hands down best out of what I've tried in a 3" 870. If you try it and it doesn't perform to your expectations, don't hesitate to contact Indian creek and they will let you experiment with different constrictions. I have probably a dozen other turkey chokes Remington's so if you want to try others let me know.

I used to use the jellyhead and swapped to hevi shot and a hevi choke and my pattern is super tight now at 40 yards haven't missed a turkey since the swap.

Lots of chokes will give you acceptable patterns. If you want the absolute best, you'll simply have to try a few and see which ones pattern best in your gun. What patterns best in someone else's, may not pattern best in yours - even if they're the same model gun.

One tip - if you really want to see which ones have the absolute best pattern, make sure your barrel is very clean and make sure you're shooting in fairly warm temperatures.

REN let me borrow one of this chokes. We have the same gun. The only difference is he had his forcing cone lengthened. Shooting 3" Mag Blends, he got 201 in a 10" circle (40 yards). I shot mine straight out of the box (without cleaning it), and only got 161. It would have killed a turkey at 40 yards no problem, but there's obviously a big difference. I'm going to deep clean the bore and try it out again when temps warm up.

Going to a store to buy one I would pick jelly head or hevi shot they are extremely good for the money especially the jelly head. Ordering one rhino by far then jebs after that.

X2. The Jellyhead will outshoot a lot of more expensive chokes in my gun and the Hevishot choke was right there with it. I shoot Hevishot straight 6's.

My buddy swears by Indian Creek on his 870, except he uses hevi-13 number 7. He stomps turkey every year with it.

I have a Jellyhead in .665 and .660 for the remington. The .665 patterns best in my 26" gun while the .660 is best in the 24". I've had good results with Hevi-shot magnum blend. The Long Beards do really well with either combo too.

I switched to the LBs from the MagBlends for no other reason than they are cheaper. Using the JH 660 has worked great the past two years.
