This past Thursday my dad and I headed down to Okeechobee, FL. On Friday morning, we were both set up on opposite sides of the property, looking over some freshly burned fields. The birds started gobbling early, and as it got lighter, I could hear probably ten different birds. Two strutters pitched down about 200 yards in front of me, followed by a wad of hens. The hens led those two in the opposite direction of me. Right when I lost sight of the first two toms, two more toms stepped out into the burnt field and one went into strut. They started heading towards the birds that had just left the field, so we hit them hard with some cutts. Lucky for me, they spun around and started coming in. One would strut for about 5 yards while the other followed him looking. I let the strutter get to about 35 yards out and sent some hevi 7s at his head. He never flopped, and I was done with my Osceola hunt before the sun even came up. My dad ended up killing one that evening.
My bird's stats, 16.68 lbs, both spurs were 1 3/16, beard was 7 3/8.
