Over under

Anyone hunt with an over/under for turkey? What are the pros/cons of them. Would you set both barrels the same and just have a 2 shotter or set one for long and one for up close. And how would the poi of the barrels be if you put a red dot.

It's pretty common. One barrel with a modified or improved choke and lead (or lighter load HTL) for close in work, one with standard turkey choke/load for longer range. Have to have barrel selector switch or two triggers. Pros: flexible load selection and more wiggle room up close. Cons: two barrels add weight and unless yoi go with a high-end gun ($$) POI is often different between barrels. May not be noticable with wing shooting but problematic for turkeys.

I bought one several years ago after missing a turkey a 12 yards. I used it for a few years, but the barrels shot 6-8 inches different. Because of that I never was 100% confident with it and eventually sold it. You can lightly file in inside of the choke to correct some of the POI difference, but I didn't know that at the time.

For most of my turkey hunting life,
my "go to" turkey gun was a 12ga side-by-side that predated screw-in choke tubes.
It was factory bored full & extra full.
2 3/4" chambers, never knew I needed 3 1/2" ones
Killed a ton of turkeys with that gun.

Originally bought that gun more specifically for squirrel hunting.
Think it weighs right at 6 lbs, very light, easy to carry.

Probably still be turkey hunting with it if I hadn't actually NEEDED optical sights,
due to aging eyes.
Gunsmith advised against drilling & tapping for even a Burris Fastfire.

Not heavy at all...weighs right at 8 lbs. Since there's not really a receiver, action, or magazine the weight of that additional 2nd barrel is offset. The FF mounts to the rib. There's a pair of plates that bolt underneath the rib and then 4 set screws that provide lateral stability against the sides of the rib. Rock-solid.

I love to see your gun every time it pops up. Was thinking about a little stoeger condor 20ga any thoughts on it.

I don't have any direct experience with the Stoeger but fit and bore finish are critical to POI/POA and pattern quality. Might have to do some polishing to get super slick bores that'll pattern well if the bores aren't chrome-lined.

Pretty sure the condor doesn't have selectable barrels. I ended up going with a Yildiz and liked it so much I bought another. POI is the same with both barrels and it has selectable barrels and automatic ejectors

Mine is a 20 gauge with 7.5 lead in the close barrel and Hevi in the long range barrel

The wood on the Yildiz ain't waterproof at all. That's the only problem I've run into
