Pacific Pro Football League

Re: Pacific Pro Football League

$10 million in player salaries plus coaches, trainers, doctors....... I would think about $100 million plus /year should cover it. They are going to need some real sponsors. Can't see much money coming from TV.

Re: Pacific Pro Football League

The idea isn't a bad one if they can get the coaching/training etc that they could get at a college to get them ready for the NFL.

Do I go to school and have to go to classes/homework/tests AND train and practice, or do I get paid and work on my body and skills and skip the school stuff?

It probably won't be very entertaining to watch at first, but if you get some of the top talent to go that route, then it might be interesting down the road. Plus, there is very little sports to watch in the summer.

Re: Pacific Pro Football League

Anybody remember the XFL?

All that they need is Under Armor to buy into the idea and sponsor/promote it and it will be a huge success, much like college recruiting.

Re: Pacific Pro Football League

So basically the guys who could not make the cut in the NFL ????

NO THANKS!

Au Contraire, the concept is solid.

This is before they are NFL eligible. Read the article.

Instead of competing with the NFL, if it catches on, it will be the NFL farm system INSTEAD of what the colleges have become. PLUS, they get paid, as opposed of having to endure the "slave trade" and charade that is college football currently.

Sure, you will still have those who want their degree while preparing for a possible NFL career, but let's be honest, most are just going through the motions because that is the requirement to stay eligible.

Want to take a guess at how many Bama players, who will likely be drafted in the next draft, are actually attending class today :pop: :D ?

BTW, if you haven't seen Last Chance U on Netflix, it is a great documentary and really shows the struggle many of these guys have just staying eligible.

There we are having a nice discussion and you Just could not resist taking a shot at ALABAMA could you ?

I really have a nice retort for that that is equally as snarky but I am sure it would be considered per the rules crap stirring and bashing . You know . Like YOUR post just was . So I will leave you with this .

See you on the 50! Y'All Don't want us!

LOL, I knew you would go there, and almost looked for one of those cute gifs that you used to post, but decided not to stoop. ( I had a crying girl in mind :D )

Surely, you don't think that I am inferring that my scenario only applies to Bama players, do you? It is occurring at every college campus across the country with players who feel they may be drafted, and have no chance at a degree, or one in a sham major. Bama is your school, so that was my point to you.

BTW, I'm up for meeting at the 50. Tell me where :D !

It's the players that won't qualify for college. Or don't want to bother with college.

Re: Pacific Pro Football League

I like the idea. If a kid went this route and then the league folds in two years, he wouldn't have NCAA eligibility though would he?

I would think that, once he gets paid, his eligibility is gone.

Nope....

Re: Pacific Pro Football League

IDK I really am not hip on the idea at all folks . There is a reason they call it College football and not Amateur Football . Just my humble opinion :

College football will still be college football. It will just be without some elite players.

That would be up to the NCAA. They could waive the rule of the league folded.
I'm almost positive they wouldn't, as this league could somewhat threaten their monopoly.
I guess a player would be wise to take out an insurance policy incase of injury.

To me that has been part of College football that has made it so great . Is to see these great stand outs going in to the NFL and then following their career with the NFL .

Most here are probably too young to realize the impact OJ Simpson had on the sports world and the spotlight he brought to college football . He was one of the first athletes to really capitalize in on TV and Endorsements . He sorta paved the way for the Payton Manning of today .

So many other forms of Amateur Football have come and gone over the years in one form or the other . I suspect this one won't last long either.

Re: Pacific Pro Football League

I think there is a place/need for it. Take a player like Maurice Clarret and several others. Well many others. The kids that go to a junior college to get grades up to par before going to a regular school. I just don't think there will be the needed money to support it. Take a poor kid from an inner city with a lot of talent but not good in school work. He will be all over this.
