I took off the first week of muzzleloader and have hunted as much as possible. Opening weekend wasn't bad and saw several deer. Then it slowed down and I saw very few deer throughout the week. I did pass on a couple of mature 8 pointers but they just weren't what I was looking for. Saturday, things started picking back up and I saw several deer, including another good 8 that I passed on. This morning, deer movement was almost non stop and at 11:50, I noticed a doe coming through a thicket with this buck trailing her. He looked mature and knowing I have to return to work Tuesday, I decided to take him. He was the 19th deer of the morning. A 40 yard shot with the savage smokeless and I was done for the day. I have to admit that I was surprised to see the two kicker points and the palmation in his main beam. Just glad I finally connected. Looking back at my hunting log, I have 52 hours in a tree since opening day and I am exhausted. I'm gonna try it one more time in the morning. Then I head to Alberta Saturday for a long awaited whitetail hunt.
