Shooting my 870 at 30 yards, shooting a hastings .680 and win supreme 3" #6 and only getting about 35-50 pellets in a twelve by twelve sheet of paper. I was hoping and would really like more pellets in the paper. May end up buying a jellyhead .665 before long and trying that. I suppose 35-50 pellets in the paper will kill one but just would like tighter pattern.

I'd say you're missing.
You need to be using a larger piece of paper.
Try a poster board.

Sounds like the pattern isn't centered with your point of aim (not your fault), it's the gun.

Ya I had a piece of poster board behind it so I could see it and its blowing the patter across the poster board and putting that many pellts in the twelve by twelve paper.

I'm not familiar with a Hastings choke, but do know some chokes not only do better/worse with different shells, but also with different size shot. You might find it does better with #5 shot in the Supremes. I've had two different guns (or choke tubes) that would pattern #5 denser & more uniform than #6.

Another option that might help:

Consider trying the Winchester Extended Range shells.
I've yet to try them in any gun without getting a more uniform and denser pattern than the Supremes (which are a good shell, just that the "Extendeds" do better).

Of course, you could simply go to the straight #7 loads from H-13, and I'd almost guarantee you'd be happy with the pattern density (provided your pattern is centered).

Camaro12- I have been reccomended those two chokes numerous times, but I cant seem to find the 660 which more ppl are leaning to.

Wes Parish- I took ur advice and bummed a #5 off my cousing just now and it patterned better, gonna upload a pic shortly.

May I suggest a TRUGLO. I bought a new supermag at wal mart last year, went straight to gander mountain and bought a IC choke, it was terrible with store bought rems, wins, hevi 13 it didnt matter. Then I proceeded to go through the heart break of trying a buddies hastings, that was the BIG FIX, nope then another buddies rhino, then some other chokes, tried alot of different loads with each including going down and checking out a 3' shell. I got the tube free with truglo sites I bought, the number stamped on the side is is TG17ox good luck. i its anything like mine you wont be disapointed but they are all different.

Shooting a lil high but I'm going to get another box of #5 and then I'll adjust my sights, dropping this pattern about 4-6" should have his head buzzing with shot. Watcha think?

Still not great but it will definately kill one.

Trevor, Help is on the way. But you got to listen to me ok.

Now if you are wanting the Jelly Head .660 choke you can buy it here and it's free shipping online. I just bought one from there a few days ago.

Another good choke is the Rem Ventilator. I have one.

You need to try one of them chokes and start shooting Hevi-13 3" 2oz #7's are if you have a 3.5" chamber the 3.5" 2 and 1/4oz #7 loads. Try that combo and let me know what you think. And make sure you shoot at 40yds. Use a big piece of cardboard and you can tape your turkey target to it.

Here's what that Ventilator choke can do with the Hevi-13 3" 2oz #7 load at 40yds. That's what you want in a pattern.

Thanks for your advice Brad, I appreciate it I just cant spend that much on 5 shells right now, but before next season I'll be shooting them.

That was my thoughts chaney.

I shoot an 870 and last year I shot a bunch of loads with a few different chokes. Jellyhead, TruGlo and the Remington X full extended choke and by far the best pattern was the Remington X full. I shoot 3" Federal shells #5's 2oz with the Flight control wad and it is deadly at 40 yards. I killed two birds last year at 40 and they dropped dead. The Nitros are nice but man that is to expensive for some shells.

The Jellyhead .665 or maybe even the Jellyhead .660 will give you the pattern you are looking for with that load.

x2

I have heard that the JH chokes and Remington go together like milk & cookies.... I will find out within a couple of weeks.

Try deep cleaning and/or polishing your barrel also.

What yardage was this at?..... If it is at 30.... maybe a little high but at 40 it may be dead on.....
