Great adventures in hunting today. Set up on the side of a ridge overlooking a deep hollow that had a gobbler and hen in it. Was trying to work the gobbler up to me, when I had five (two gobblers, three hens) come into the hilltop clearing above and behind me. They never made a sound. The only way I knew they were there was I heard one of the gobblers strutting and drumming. Unfortunately, I was on the downhill side looking up to the edge, and could only see the lip of the clearing. I was able to get turned around and up high enough to see into the clearing, but was spotted by a hen, which alerted everyone else and they all bolted.
So - I moved about 100 yards up the hollow, and got one gobbling about 300 yards off. After 30 minutes, he finally made it into view at 50 yards, then putted and headed downhill to my right. 5 minutes later along comes this guy, headed in the same direction as the gobbler. Needless to say, the #5s did their job.
On a side note, while dragging him out, I walked up on a jake in a logging road, and got two more to gobbling during the walk back to the house.
