I'm on the fence on this. To me, they are getting paid something that 98% of the college kids aren't getting�a completely paid tuition, room/board and meal costs! However, I have no problem paying them a small amount so they can enjoy their college experience. I'm not talking $5,000 a month�more like minimum wage, or maybe slightly higher. That way they can go on a date, buy something they want or pay expenses that aren't included in their tuition. That I believe is fair, considering the fact that the college they play for is making millions off of their performance. For at least 1/3 of the year a football/basketball player has no life outside of their sport�they practice, attend class, do homework, watch film, attend meetings, conditioning, etc..., so a college athlete holding down meaningful employment is practically impossible.
