Pen Rod

Anyone ever use these? I thought about putting together a pen rod kit for those hard to get to spots or to keep in my truck for a quick fishing opportunity. I have looked at these:

Hmmm...I don't know anyone personally who has used a rig like these with any regularity. My feeling is that, if you can leave something in the truck all the time, you could probably manage a 2-piece rod with better action than anything telescopic. I'd have to handle it a bit before I could buy a rod like that, and decide if it was something I could deal with.

I do see some application for ultralight backpackers who are interested in "incidental" fishing, and not making fishing a central part of their effort.

I also wouldn't mind having a rig like this collapsed into my duck hunting pack for the purpose of retrieving down birds out in the middle of a deep hole. That would be kinda nifty to have as long as it didn't weigh much (I have been doing some walk-in spots where weight can be an issue).

Interested to see how this thread goes...

Might also check on a fishing forum for more traffic.
