Can I get your advise on arrows for my Bear Cub?
The only info on the bow is a weight of 46#
its not set up and I should get a new string with nock set before serius practice begins.Ive shot a few with my carbon arrows because I couldnt stand not shooting it a few times.
Dianne says it doesnt count unless I go all out with wood arrows.
I am planning on shelving the compound next season and going for my first deer with the long bow. Before deer season I want to try for a hog near Dale Hollow Lake State park in KY as I have info from KYDNR that there is a population of hogs there. Here are a couple pics of the bow

Bobby W. & Diane -- how in the world is it going????

That is a nice little long bow. My advice may not be worth much on this one. That is a straight limbed long bow, and I haven't shot one of those in a coon's age. There are a lot of trad guys around here that can give you better info than I can.

We don't know if it is 46#@28" or 46# at some other draw length. What is your draw length?? I would get a new B50 string. It is probably not cut to center so it will be more spine sensitive when trying to find a suitable arrow.

If you wan to shoot woodies, I would think something spined around 45-50#. Personally, I would probably shoot 35-55 carbons and vary the point weight and total length until I found what shot the best. Of course, you can vary the point weight and total length with wood to see what shoots the best.

I will be glad to help you in any way I can. Feel free to contact me with any questions you have. After you get her set up, practice, practice, practice......

Going pretty good...she's tolerating me anyway :)
I did think of using carbon and going as heavy as I could to get as much drive as I can muster.I got a long draw 29-30 if I touch my cheek which is what I was thinking of doing as an anchor point.But....if I use carbon "it wont count" as I am told by Momma ! So I will end up with wood after I get a new string....
One thing...nock set 1/8 above or below center or should I center and move it up and down during practice to get best arrow flight off the shelf etc etc to see what It likes ? I got some info on trad bow set up and it mentions moving the nock around as a possibility for adjusting arrow flight, launch etc......
Hope yer well, and I appreciate any advice

Diane is right - it just ain't right to shoot carbon out of that bow. That bow begs for wood arrows.

You probably should find somewhere to put that bow on a scale so you will know what it pulls at your draw length. Knowing the draw weight at your draw length will give you a head start for picking the proper arrow.

Set the nock point above center. You can start maybe 1/4" above and adjust it to get the best arrow flight. It will probably up from 1/4".

Not sure what you mean by touching your cheek for an anchor point. You want to keep the arrow in line with your eye as much as possible. A lot of people anchor with their middle finger in the corner of their mouth or touching their eye tooth. This keeps the arrow lined up under the eye.

One thing. Don't get discouraged when you start to practice. Usually takes a while for it all to come together. A straight limbed, not cut to center, long bow can be about the hardest bow to start with, but hand in there. You can do it.

thanks for the possitive attitudes fellas. The fist 4 times I shot it say from 15 yrds I did manage to hit my deer target....first shot hit him in the NOSE however....hehehehe
Phil, Im gonna write down what your saying about set up and put it in my wallet so I will have it to tell the person when I get it done...needs to be soon so I can start.
B touchin my cheek I meant what your saying about bringing hand to the corner of my mouth and releasing.
Do some modification to the target backstop to prevent arrow damage and shoot shoot shoot......
as a side note this little bow shoots my carbons really fast...I mean---its surprisingly fast...and they arent light by carbon standards as they are the heaviest spined the shop had in stock...dang place closed up before GM opened up :(
