He came running silent from a private field and I was right next to the boundary so I had to back up about 20 yards and sit in poison ivy, well there's one gap in the fence, so it should work... one soft call and a couple minutes later, he came through the gap and I gave him copper plated lead

Quickest hunt since I limb lifted in 2012 :D

Tagged out and time to fish more

Congrats catman! Do you wish you had taken the bow?
no, way too thick to shoot a bow and he would have run back to private land and died (this happened to a hen 2 bow seasons ago in a very nearby location, couldn't find or even really look for her)

I gave it a couple good tries with the bow, drew back on 2 birds, shot a rock and learned something, so I decided I wanted to try and finish up and blast one with the shotgun one more time.

:(

You gonna regret not taking the bow these next two weeks :D !

Congrats!

You said he came running, was he that love struck Cat? LOL  On a serious note, I assume he never gobbled once, true? Did he ever strut/drum/etc?

never gobbled or strutted. I was in the woods not far from boundary. Hen was roosted near me and aware of me. at least two gobblers were hammering across the private field at an angle, particularly one that was fairly close. I was trying to decide where to set up I had a gap in the fence right next to me, but a tall wire fence and thicket going towards the gobbling bird. I was gonna either go way down and find another opening or just sit where I was and watch the private field. I had already made a few yelps and got response from the gobbling bird. I was watching the field from the corner, with the gobbler off to the right somewhere across the field in the woods. Suddenly I look straight in front of me and there's a turkey fast walking/running straight at me from about 100 yards or so. I backed away from the fence gap, with terrain going down so I could hide. I got about 20 yards away from the fence and kneeled down on an embankment. I'm pretty sure that bird flew to me, because I saw one either run or fly and land right across the fence and walk to the right behind thick stuff. I made a few soft yelps and here came the big head silhouetted against the field. He came to about where the gap was, and I saw the sway beard. He came a little closer so I knew he had crossed the boundary. Only could see his head but knocked him down. He flopped right up against a fence post with yellow paint on it. Gave him no chance once he hit the property line... He was alone and lovestruck for sure.
