Dont mean to sound like a broken record, guys and gals, but this is one thing that I simply do not think can be overstated:

[color:#FF0000]WEAR YOUR SAFETY HARNESS !

Everyone is fired up and anxious about the opener and we all can hardly wait to get that '25-foot high' ! Just remember to think of your family and strap in before you climb up!!

x2

It only takes a split second for it to happen. About two weeks ago I was in IL hanging stands. I watched my best friend's foot slip off his climbing rail as he stepped off the stand he had just hung. Fortunately, he was attached to a Lifeline via prussic knot. He got a good scare and a little bruise when the line stopped his fall from the lineman's belt he was using to hang the stand rather than the harness he normally wears in the stand. But, we were certainly blessed. He started using those on his stands last year, and I guarantee he isn't questioning the cost/hassles today. Hearing the news about a friend from Newport with a terrible fall reinforced how bad it could have been.

It just isn't worth not taking the extra time it takes to navigate to and from the stand to risk a nightmare for your family.

No doubt. I'm going to make it a point this season. I normally lack it with a climber but I used it last year with my climber bout half way through the season til the end. I did it from the ground up. It does make me feel a lot better. I scare myself when I start thinking too much.

I am with you. Any person who goes up a tree without a safety harness attached at all times is a stupid Jack Wagon IDIOT!!!

I bet the insurance companies won't pay on your policy for a treestand fall when no safety harness was worn. So if you fall and die you loved one's won't get a dime to bury you.

I thought you didn't strap in with a climber till you were at the top?

WRONG!

Stands are manmade devices that can fail, and operator error can happen as well. If your feet slip out of the stirrups, cords, etc and you don't have it tied in, the base can end up at the bottom of the tree. You can slip through the sit on part as well.

Yes, it likely will take you a couple minutes more to slide and re-tighten your safety belt as you go up the tree. Is it worth those extra minutes to avoid being a quadraplegic? It seems like a pretty obvious answer to me, but like a lot of things in life it is your choice of priorities.

Don't worry about me fallin' out of a tree over the weekend... I'm huntin' off the ground! Saw a story on Greg Ritz the other day, he fell a few years back. Fell 25 ft. and broke his leg. He was bed ridden for 3 months and didn't walk for 3 years. It only takes a split second boys. Take the extra couple mins and put on your harness and wear it from the time your feet leave the ground until to the time they set back down.

Heck while were at it, Wear your Seat belts too!

BULL. You thought wrong! I am attached to a tree all the way up and all the way down. It is more of a challenge when I use my ladder stands, which are 15 foot, but I still do it. Too bad there is no way to use a safety harness when people go up to clean their gutters. A lot of people fall doing that as well.

My wife and kids need me too much to gamble with my life because of hunting.

Heck UTGrad you would jump out of a tree to get away from a spider or the Boogie Man!

:D Knew I would get you fired up

Im glad I finally convinced my Dad to start wearing a harness just this year. He is 52, has bowhunted since he was 20 and never wore one til this season.

Will do...

Hanging a new lock-on type stand today when I realized I forgot my HHS. Hung some of the climbing stick and will finish up tomorrow with my HHS on
