I have been looking at all the features of the Treewalker stands and they are definately making me consider purchasing one. I like the fact you can sit either facing the tree or away from it, the stand is lighter than a Summit Viper, digs into the tree better, nests together without any need for bungee cords, removeable gun rail, larger platform with integral built in foot rest, made in Seymour, TN, and nice accessories to purchase online.

With all that said, has anybody had any luck selling a climber?? I bought mine for the 2009 and it is in great shape plus I have an extra set of cables and the instruction manual. I will still need it for the rest of the 2010 season but am seriously considering Treewalker for 2011.

I have both stands you are talking about. The treewalker is different than the summit, but I can't say it is necessarily better. It has a few advantages, and several disadvantages when compared to the viper. You will be selling a really good stand in order to get a really good stand, but you will lose a lot of money in that process.

Thanks redcorn...you knocked some sense in me!

I love my Treewalker, but it is the only stand I have ever owned. It sounds like you have done your homework. I predict you will love your new Treewalker.

redcorn, would you mind to share what you consider it's "several disadvatages when compared to the viper." Thanks.

I would check on the 2010 Summit 180 Max SS.... You can face both ways and it has a surround seat..... It also holds up to 350 lbs and is the size of the Summit Titan... The biggest stands Summit makes (bigger then a Viper).... I have had alot of stands and overall Summit out performs them all... ;)

i have a viper and my dad has a 180ss. the 180ss is very nice in that you can face either direction. it is quite abit bigger than my viper. i wanted one of these when they came out,but since my dad got one i like my viper and the smaller size better.

The treewalker is not quite as "laterally" stable as it is vertically. In other words, it won't slip and couldn't be safer, but sometimes, on certain diameter trees, it is more difficult to get it set so that it won't slightly wobble from side to side.

The treewalker is a lot noisier when climbing and descending because it has a cable that is covered with pvc-type plastic tubing. This noise problem has prompted many to find ways to fill the space between the tube and cable with expanding foam.

The attachment system of the treewalker is one that requires metal pins, whereas the summit has a quick attach system that requires no external parts that might be lost or break (i've had the wire part come off a couple of the pto-style pins.)

If you get the Treewalker with the adjustable shooting rail, you might find the screw inserts for the adjustment knobs to be rather weak. Mine have become warped from a couple times when I mistakenly grabbed the shooting rail to get up on the stand. That is my fault, but I still didn't expect the inserts to be so weak. Also, the shooting rail rests on plastic knobs that are easily broken if you apply any weight at all to the shooting rail.

I don't know if the Treewalker is legal for use on every type of managment area. Some might dislike the holes it makes in trees.

The Treewalker is very expensive, especially with the accessories. It is a great stand, but shouldn't cost so much.

These are the main disadvantages I can think of. The Treewalker also has several advantages over other stands, and I am glad I own one. It's a really great stand for extended sits, and is very comfortable. I don't think you can buy a safer stand than the Treewalker, not that the summits aren't very safe. I don't think anyone who gets a Treewalker will be dissappointed, but I don't think you will be blown away when you compare one to a summit.

I know alot of folks on archerytalk suggest the timbertall. Personally I've never been a fan of Summit. Owned one and the only positive I can say is the seat was comfortable. Not to mention they have Summit is notorious for having issues with there welds.

Don't listen to redcorn he's talking nonsense...you would be better off with a treewalker. I don't want you to have any trouble getting rid of that piece of junk Viper...so I would be happy to take it off your hands. Let's talk price since I'm the one going thru the hassle how about a case of beer and a can of skoal (maybe two cans)??? :D

On a serious note if you were interested in selling I would have some interest...Can't say how many times I said to myself I wishi I had a second climber

One feature I like about the Treewalker is the ability to move the front bar out of the way to allow an open shot if I wanted to sit down and shoot. The Viper's bar is nice for security but does not move which is why I stand mostly in my climber when hunting.

Upon much reflection driving around in the car today, I decided I am going to keep the Summit. I can invest that money in multiple cheap Wildgame trailcams since I expect a couple to get stolen!

Sounds like you might be making a good choice... I once thought I needed a tree lounge and drove all the way to the factory (GA) and picked one up... Paid a lot more for it then my Summits and used it alot less... The Summit overall out performed the TL...... All stands have there strenghts and weakness but I have found Summit to be the best one overall...

And there is a good reason for that. It is absolutely a fantastic stand. When you've carried a 20-25lb stand on your back through the mountains and hills you will greatly appreciate carrying 12.5 lbs. It's a night and day difference. And with the bow and gun attachments, I don't use a rope anymore to hoist my weapon into the tree. Just one less bulky think to carry. ;)

Cant you raise the seat so that the bar is below your knees?

Good decision ! The Viper is a great stand . I got the Wildgame X6C and they are decent cams for the money . I think I paid $129 and it's as small and more reliable than my Bushnell Trophy cam .
