I'm gonna get me a good one after this season, I've used a primos power crystal for the last couple but it is not holding a sound anymore, any suggestions?

I've been using a Woodhaven Cherry Classic Crystal for several years, and it's a great sounding call but seriously overpriced. I looked a lot of them at the NWTF convention and without a doubt, the next one I get will be a Lonzo.

One thing that needs to be said. Be careful dropping a bunch of money on a so called "custom" call. A ton of call makers are buying the pot, sounding board, and surface pre cut. All they do is glue it together. These are not custom calls and generally don't carry the same sound quality of a true custom call.

A truly custom call is one that the call maker turns the pot and sounding board themselves, not a pre fab garbage pot from a supplier. They tweak each one to sound up to there standards and usually every call from a good call maker sounds identical.

Woodhaven are most certainly not custom anymore, they've converted to mass production and the quality shows in their newer calls

We started carrying Down and Dirty this spring and am seriously impressed by their friction calls. The slate and glass are very good and at a decent price @ $49.99, They offer nicer strikers too in a flare or straight tip.

I really like my lights out aluminum call, but I have not used many others to compare it to.

I run a hickory striker that Darrin sent me 98% of the time, mainly for the soft calls as the bird is closing the distance. I also carry a Dad's Monkeywood striker as an all around backup that will run about any pot call, regardless of maker or surface. It can be purchased from Midwest Turkey and/or straight from Dad's Custom Calls in Georgia.

Thanks, I just ordered the monkey wood striker. I've been running a dymndwood from Fred Cox and it sounds pretty good, just a touch flater than I like

Lon Trice's slate is a bona fide killer-especially paired with a Woodhaven laminate striker. I have a Lights Out and Bud & Betty aluminum call and both are top shelf. I have a Halloran aluminum and a Dawkins aluminum in the mail. I have a Halloran double glass and it's the best glass I've ever owned hands down.

Alright I got the Monkeywood in the mail today and although it sounds good the Fred Cox Tulipwood and Dymndwood sound better to me.

I'm not saying the Monkeywood is bad, I just like the other two better.

Anyone who really likes the Monkeywood shoot me a PM and I'll send it your way free of charge
