Checked camera today, and i know its early, but On May 7th, I had a hen with 8-10 poults. I would say no more than three days old. First poults I have ever seen in on this property since 2007. That's with cameras and just going to the farm to work periodically during summer. So hopefully they will make it. Been doing habitat work since 2007 as well. Maybe they will live, and hopefully there will be more broods to come.
I would say this hen began nesting in mid to late march, and started setting around April 7th. Breeding would probably been done in early to mid march.
Also, as title says, a strutting gobbler was in a different picture on a later day, and also saw one not strutting with a hen not far from my camera. I'm fairly sure it is the same gobbler.
Since the decline, we have normally had 2-3 gobblers(pre-decline it would be 7-8) in and out of the property, with a few nesting hens, and have never had proof of a poult. This is about a square mile of hardwoods/cow pasture / foodplots, what I would think is good turkey habitat.
This is in southern Giles county where the population is not good.
To me, this info also backs what I previously thought, they begin breeding in March, and continue until now and even past now, probably well into June.
