Have been seeing poults for the last 2weeks or so, both here around the house and up on the mountain. Most are little bigger than quail size. Jumped a hen yesterday on the mountain with eight or so that probably weren't but a couple hours old. She was off the shoulder of a gated road setting on them. She stood up and tried to lead me off, trampling a few I'm sure. I backed out best I could to let her re-group, hoping she did not injure them. She was nested 10ft in right next to a good puddle. Have been here 13 years and always see poults by this time each year. Biologists actually have our season set just right. Lots of breeding mid to late March, well before season. Good hunting throughout season, right up till the end. I'm confident I could hunt hard gobbling, "willing" Gobblers for at least the next two weeks.
