Practice Routines

I shoot 4 at 20yds,4 at 30yds and 4 at 40yds...Then if im not pleased with any one yardage,I focuse on that yardage and what im doing wrong. For instance, say I shoot good at 20 and 30 which most of the time I do,then I get to 40,and my groups open up,I will focus on 40 yds..

I dont really have a routine, I just shoot till I dont feel like shooting anymore. I rarely shoot inside 30 yds though unless im having a bad day and need to feel good about myself. lol

My normal practice range is usually in the 35 to 50 yard range. I will sometimes mix in a 65 or 70 group to try and tighten up that 50 yd group though.

I'm an oddball on this one I guess. I will only stand and fire multiple arrows from the same yardages to set my sight. Once that is done, I don't do it any more unless something is array.

The rest of the time I practice for 3D shooting. Since nothing is really exactly dead on (20, 25, 30, etc), and all yardages are unknown, and you only get one scoring shot per target...I treat my practice sessions much the same way. My target always stays in the same spot, but I will approach it from different angles and yardages and just fire one arrow at the target per spot. It helps practice up for that one shot and one shot only, and helps judge yardage. If I make a high/low/left/right shot...then I don't get a 2nd chance at the same spot. Just like in 3D and in hunting. And since most 3D courses are 20-25 targets, I will shoot around 30-35 arrows in a session to simulate the actual targets shot, and pre-shooting warmup session.

I've really started to ramp up my workout sessions at the gym here lately. This is the first time I've ever really worked out and I've been really adding strength to my back and shoulders, with the hopes of it helping my stamina and steadiness in bow shooting.

Shot a couple at 20 just to get loose, then concentrate on 30-40 yard shots. If I'm not lazy, I'll climb a tree and shoot out of it from various yardages (move my target around the yard).

I do the same for hunting practice .

Thanks...I've spent too much time practicing at 20-30 yards last year. I want to tighten up the 20-30 yard groups by practicing 40,50,60 yards plus some odd distances.

Second time out I would shoot 10 at 10 yards,10 at 20yards and 10 at 25 yards. Thats at BP. I guess I need to pick up a target for the back yard to increase my range. Any suggestions on practice targets that hold up.

DITTO x 2, this really works well for me as well. I also shoot at least 3 times a week, every week doing this. I just love to shoot....

I don't have a set routine. Youngest boy focuses hard on the first shot and then starts practice. He is correct when he says that you don't get practice shots in the woods. Crow seems to have a good way of practicing that focus.

You know he's right...Make the first shot count, for there may not be a second...Wise beyond his years..... ;)

One thing I like to do is shoot my longer yardages first while I'm fresh ,but without any warmup shots at closer yardages . Then I would move closer as I tired .

I did this today, but the wind made things a little tough.

I am working on a routine based on Core Archery by Larry Wise. I will blind bail first, then move back to 40 yards. I will spend about 50% of my practice at 40 yards, 30 % at 50 yards, then 20% at 30 yards. Then I will close with a brief session of blind bail. I will see if this helps.
