I practiced this morning with a steady wind about 20 knots. Are there any ways to counteract the "wind sail" effect the wind has on the bow? I would try to steady the pin on target and it kept "sailing" off. Obviously I would like to improve my technique for hunting in the wind.

I got out and hit a seven iron in the wind. Couldn't hit it much over 100 yrds. Wind was stiff that's for sure.

I shoot best with my quiver off because it has less wind resistance . I like to find a wind break or just avoid shooting on very windy days . It is a lesson in futility , and I see nothing gained by forcing myself to shoot on very windy days .

Thanks Scott61, I do not shoot with my quiver on. After all my reading and asking around, I decided it was best to use it only as a way to haul around my arrows. I practice like I play, so I don't practice with a quiver nor will I hunt with it.

Like Scott said if its vey windy I wont pratice cause I wont be up in a tree in those conditions
A mild breeze is about as much as I will go

Ive hunted in the wind and most of the time you just get to sway in your stand. I don't practice in high wind because I just get upset if I don't hit like I want to.

What wind speed determines if you will be up in a tree during the season?

I wont hunt with my bow if it is really windy.

I will hunt in the wind unless my tree stand/tree im in is swaying violently. With a gun, cant get a steady rest and with a bow cant stand up. All depends on the size of the tree for me or where Im hunting. It all depends. But I wont shoot near as far with my bow if the wind is blowing hard.

You'll just have to experiment and try it. You might not mind a sustaind 30mph wind or you might hate a 15mph wind. No one on here can tell you what you can tolerate.

Your body learns to shoot in the wind pretty quickly...ask anyone who has ever shot the ASA in Gainsville. Good form with proper bow arm pressure and a correct draw length are the two biggest helps. Simply pick your spot and push your bow through it.

If you are doing this it is much easier to shoot in the wind. Additionally, I speed my timing up a little in the wind. Basically being more agressive has negated the wind. On calm days you can relax into your form more, but on windy days you have to work through the shot.
