Do you prefer Private public or guided hunts? (I know some people that only go on guided deer hunts)

I've done all 3 and there are aspects to all of them that I like. I love the challenge of figuring out big woods public land bucks. I also like having some pre-hung stands on private that I can just run out to and get in a quick hunt (like when I oversleep, or after a long day at work). I've become good friends with several people that I've met on guided hunts that has opened doors to areas and species that I wouldn't have hunted otherwise. All three have their benefits and drawbacks.

I would prefer a pack train of mules/horses back into the Thorofare, in the middle of the elk bugle.
It could be guided or un guided, I just need stock to get me and my gear 20 miles into the wilderness because I refused to own horses. Plus it's a lot easier to sacrifice someone else's horse to a grizz than it would be my own….

Yes???

As Hiker described above, a guided hunt into wilderness can be pretty amazing. But a guided whitetail hunt where you get dropped off at a treestand in the morning then picked up from said tree in the evening, not my thing. Flying over Texas in a helicopter shooting pigs with an AR, count me in. Sitting me in front of a feeder to shoot pigs in the middle of the night, count me out.

As far as public vs private goes, I do and enjoy both equally.

I like both public and private. I like the peace and quiet and freedom of private land. But, I enjoy the challenge and seeing different terrain in hunting public land. Really not a lot of interest in guided hunts, though I know it's necessary and required in some places.

Only been on guided hunts out west... Elk, Mule Deer and Antelope... the main reason I like guided hunts out west is all of them I have been on have been on private land...The smallest piece of property I have hunted on was 42k acres... the one I have hunted on the most was 62k acres... and the largest was over 100k acres... Simply put, the private land holds more animals, has less pressure and better quality animals most of the time... all of this generally adds up to a higher success ratio... On the elk hunt alone I saw over 600 elk... in two days in different areas... not counting the same animals twice

Obviously I prefer private as I know who is supposed to be there and I feel safer running cams, etc. I did enjoy hunting at Pennyrile Outfitters in Ky. TBH I would be back this fall if I could afford it. Right now between having to buy a house, 4 kids, it just isn't in the cards. Small operation where you feel like family.

Part of the fun is figuring it out for myself, so I won't do guided hunts. Just my preference. I used to love hunting public ground, but not so much in the last twelve years or so. I still do on occasion, but it's rare.

My wife signed me up for a guided hunt in the Black Belt region of Alabama for my 40th birthday a few years back. I appreciated it very much, and it was thoughtful of her, but I felt like a little kid being led to blinds overlooking food plots. Not my cup of tea. To each his own.

I prefer private for all the obvious reasons.
Less pressure
Pre-hung stands
I feel safe knowing the other hunters and where they are located.
I still hunt some public land but only occasionally.
