Awhile back several of us got to talking about turkey guns and over/unders came up. This has been my project gun for quite a few years while experimenting with chokes, loads, and such. I promised to share the final outcome when complete and here it is.

Wow, I like it :D I decided yesterday that I want a 20 gauge double barrel so I got a few questions.
I've heard of both barrels not shooting to same POA, did you have an issue with this.

Are the sling mounts factory or did you add them to the gun?

Finally, since most doubles have wood stocks, did you have the camo put over the wood?

Uncle Jesse,

I've had zero problems with POI for both barrels...Rhino 660 on top and 673 on the bottom.

Sling mounts are factory and yes on the wood stock; no problems with dipping. Mr. Rob Roberts and his crew over in Batesville, AR do splendid work with great customer service. Highly recommended.

It's a Heckler & Koch though not sure if they still make this model. It was one of the few that was available with 3.5" chambers, selectable barrels, and it's ported to ease the thump a little. The Rhino chokes deliver perfectly obscene patterns with choice of open or tight at the flip of a switch. For a long time I had fiber optic sights but swapped them out for the Burris Fastfire. It's taken me lots of years and experimenting to complete but I couldn't be more pleased.

The turkeys absolutely hate it.

What does it weigh?
Right at 8 lbs. Since there's not really a receiver, action, or magazine the weight of that additional 2nd barrel is offset. For the sake of qualitative comparison, it weighs less than my backup Winchester 1300 or the Remington 11-87 turkey (that I got rid of)...and both of those sport much shorter 21-22" barrels.

Sweet looking setup Boll, love the camo. What is barrel length and overall length of gun?
28" barrels...add 1.5" for the chokes. Overall length is still only 46.5" though. I think a big reason why it patterns like it does is those long barrels.

Boll, isn't yours a Fabarm ultra mag lion made by H&K? I think I looked at one before I got my O/U.
That's correct, SS. Don't know if they did/do or not, but if they were to ever make this gun in a 20ga I'd be all over it for my next project. Run some TSS through that thing and it'd be pure poison. Of course, it'd prolly take me tinkering for another 10 years to finish that one too!

How's your rig coming along?

Well if you were getting a 20 gauge double today, what would you get? I can appreciate a well made, high dollar firearm but, not in the turkey woods. I'm rough on my turkey gun and want to go cheap but I know the consequences of doing that too.

If you were looking for an economy 20 gauge, I would look at these. The turkish made guns are going to be pretty economical, and most of them are still fine for field grade turkey hunting. A lot of the high price tags on O/U guns are because so many O/U guns are competition grade. The only thing you have to worry about is that when you go to a cheaper gun, you get less exact tolerances. This is was leads to POA v. POI problems. They may not be apparent when wing shooting, but when you choke it down and start shooting at turkey noggins, it could be an issue. You also want to make sure you get one with selectable barrels, for obvious reasons.
