Hey everyone! New to TN and last weekend we had a failed quote hunt at Cheatum TWRA. Being Cheatum is quote hunt I'm looking for other options to hopefully fill the freezer.

Is there any public land areas (I'm in middle TN) that don't require a quote award to hunt?

My last resort would be paying for a private land but would like to see if I can do public first.

Thanks for your help, happy hunting!

checkout the Tn Hunting Guide plenty of public opportunities in TN to hunt. Online, hunting stores, processors ususally have them available and each area usually has its own regulations.

There's a lot of land open to statewide seasons within an hour of Cheatham. As said above, use the hunting guide to read the regulations for specific WMAs.

This map makes it easier to visually locate WMAs across the state. https://www.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=953ef9d3bd044f9d9f0f9d7c0dd6b71c

Keep in mind that statewide season WMAs get a lot of continuous hunting pressure during gun season. You may have to work harder and cover more ground to find a good spot. Just remember to find where the deer are, not where you want them to be. Usually the deer favor the spots that are overlooked by other hunters. Thick cover helps. Good luck

Some good advice above. Be sure to read any "special" regs listed under each WMA/PHA/etc. For example Percy has some specifics regarding weapon type that doesnt apply to others. Im sure there are more, that one just came to mind first.

If you're meat hunting at this point, Cheatham is open for one antlerless deer starting Dec 6.

See below, Copied from the regulations.

Deer (Gun Hunt, Non-quota) - Dec. 6 - Jan. 2. One antlerless deer. Deer counts toward statewide bag.
