Just a friendy reminder to check the regs for your public ground. Many WMAs and state wetlands (in West TN at least) do not open until 4/15. An important detail that could be eaisly overlooked.

Good reminder--especially since the "quick '" guide summary of hunting season dates makes no mention of it. Where do you go to see which "state wetlands" have the shorter season?

Good point.

However, many "public" lands have always had differing seasons and bag limits than statewide "private" lands, so this is really nothing new that you should be checking the specific regs for each WMA or public land you're interested in hunting. SOME, might even have seasons opening BEFORE "statewide" (not common for turkey, but is common for deer).

Also, there are some "public" lands where lead shot (including copper-plated) turkey loads are illegal shells to possess, much less shoot. On these areas, only NON-lead loads are legal for turkey hunting.

Yes, people should check the regs for each specific public area they hunt. But many will not. No body to blame if you mess up, but a reminder cant hurt. Particularly when hunting areas that have opened with the statewide season for years. Big stand-alone type places with quota hunts like LBL or Natchez Trace, people may think about. But the walk-in area down the road where you've hunted for years, it would be easy to miss the shortened season dates.
