I have been reloading some ammo and was using a Lee Auto Prime hand primer to seat my primers. I've done this for years and was always happy with this method.
Well today I read the instructions, (for the first time) that came with the auto prime and they said not to use it with Federal primers. I have loaded 1000's of Federal primers over the years without a single mishap.
I was just wondering why the instructions said not to use with Federal primers and if anyone one else uses this method to seat primers?

seems like i heard something somewhere about that hand primer touching off the federal's while priming. i may be wrong though. give Lee a call, they can answer your question.

IIRC the federal primers are a little softer. That may be the reason for the warning. You should be fine as long as you aren't crushing them in the seating process.

ATK has owned Federal and RCBS for years. LEE put the little tid-bit about not using Federal primers in the Hand prime because they didn't want anymore money going to ATK. I used a Hand prime for years with the 'softest' of the soft Federal primers and never with a hitch. Don't worry about it as it was just a marketing ploy!
