I have FiremanJim building me my first trail cam and I already know where I plan on putting it, I just wanted to know how far away I should place the camera from where I expect the deer to be travelling thru? The area I plan on putting it is in a low marshy area in my woods where I have a trophy rock in place already. Thanks for the input!

I usually place mine a little closer than MUP's (atleast over a salt lick). Mine are about 15 feet away. Also, you want to try to face it towards the North (if possible). That ensures you that the sun wont ever be a factor and ruin any pictures. As far as heighth on the tree goes, I usually place it about midway between my knees and waist

Good Luck!

Agreed. 15 feet and if possible, facing north.
