This is my third season hunting with my DXT; killed two last year and one in 08. I used NAP Scorpions (mechanicals) in 08 and Rage in 09 and got great results from both. I need a new broadhead this year, though, and am giving the Montecs a try. I've got them shaving sharp and grouping well but...

The Montecs land about 3 inches right of my fieldpoints. The groups are no larger than the field points, and at the same height, but consistently 3 inches to the right. For this weekend, I just adjusted my sight and can put them in the bullseye out to 30 yards, but this still bugs me. Seems to me, there must be an aerodynamics/tuning issue here.

When I bought the bow, the Matthews pro shop guy laughed when I asked about paper tuning and said it is a waste of time: he was going to use a laser. But I am thinking I need to paper tune. I've been bowhunting for 9 years but never had this issue before, as I generally used mechanicals.

Should I be looking to adjust the rest, the sight, or something else to get broadheads landing with the fieldpoints?

Sounds like the rest needs to be adjusted to the left a little. Adjust it in small amounts each time and your broadheads should come together with your field points. Then you will have to resight.

Seriously, why would it bother you if you can adjust your sight and get consistent results?

Because I can't practice with field tips and know whether I am on, or have a problem with form, or if my sight is out of adjustment. It takes some time to hone broadheads back to shaving sharp, so I do not want to practice with them most of the time.

FYI....a Mathews bow should NEVER be "laser" tuned (i.e. centershot), and if the guy was serious about that he obviously does not know anything about Mathews bows--even though he may be a great bow tech.

First, to save yourself alot of trouble and time make sure your arrows are spined correctly. After that I would paper tune at 5yds, 10yds, 20yds and then walk back tune. If all of the above is done correctly and you are still having differences in point of contact between your broadheads and field points then move the rest in 1/16th of an inch increments toward the field points. After the point of impact is the same then adjust your sight and your good to go. Good Luck!
