But beautiful weather. Felt like early season this morning. Walked into the woods as it was getting light and birds were singing. Never heard one on the roost, but got to my listening spot about 3/4 mile back from the road. After sunrise I heard one gobble a few times far off into another property. That was the only tom I heard all day. But I did have a hen cutting back at me, and watched an owl try to grab a hen while she flapped and then just stood there looking like nothing happened.

I met up with MidTennFisher around 1:30 and we went around to a few spots checking fields, setting up and calling, etc. never heard a bird or saw one for that matter. It was nice not having to carry the gun for once. Wish the birds would have talked more, but can't complain it was a nice day to spend in the woods.

Now I can go and sit in a corner and hang my head. Turkey season always goes by too fast, it's the best time of the year and I can't wait for next year.

Hope y'all have had a good season. I'll probably post a season review with pics within the next couple of days.

Fantastic attitude! I went for the third time here in TN today as well, complete silence and it was my best farm. I went with a friend yesterday to another farm and we were able to have one killed by 6:30 and he put on quit a show. Its amazing what the difference of 24 hours and 15 miles can make.

Bitter sweet end.

It was a good season but a tough one. Least gobbling I ever heard. I didn't hear any this week end either but did see a hen with babieS. Start looking for mature bucks now. Do some experimenting with ammo.

Thanks again for taking me, I had a good time even though we didn't see or hear any birds. It was perfect weather to spend a day in the woods!

Now get ready for some Summer kayak fishing to keep us occupied until deer season.

I saw a nice buck this morning
already past his ears and about 4" brows
nice deer

I've had a really good season, it started out rough, I managed one on opening morning and it was dead for a long time. I managed 2 more week before last and they were very welcomed. It's been a tough one with everything I had going on. Can't wait to do it again, but I've got big plans for this year

Definitely a strange season. I only hunted in the afternoon yesterday so I didn't hear a peep. I killed a nice gobbler that was with two other gobblers and several hens. I saw two flocks yesterday that were acting like it was the first of April.

I didn't even go this weekend. I had a gobbler behind my house and one in front of my house gobbling most of the day sat and sun and figured since they had made it this long in the season I would let them live another year. This morning while taking the dogs out I heard the gobbler behind the house and seen him strutting for 2 hens. Can't wait till next season.

I didn't go Sunday but I did Saturday
I had one tore up but he wouldn't cross the property line.
I assume he's the same bird that busted me last weekend. He was in the same place. I had so much fun listening to him gobble at my calling. When he would hush up for awhile I would hit him with a different call and here he'd start again. For 2 hours we played. He'd get close and walk away several times. I decided I would not go Sunday as I haven't went a single Sunday all year. I decided he won 2 times in a row and I would bow out gracefully and try a rematch next season.
Had a good year counting the juvenile I went 9 times and called 15 gobblers within sight or just under the hill close enough to hear drumming and walking and had my chances to kill 4 of them but finished up with 2 Toms. A 2 year old and a 3 year old best I can tell. It was exciting to see and hear them so close.
Can't wait till next year. Just traded a custom box call for 3 custom scratch boxes that I can't wait to learn. Adding a trumpet to my arsenal of calls as well as a couple more box calls. Going to be learning the trumpet and scratch boxes. Sure hope for more time to hunt next season .

Gobbled great both Saturday and Sunday.

Watched one breed a hen from 150 yards yesterday morning before I had to pull the plug to get back in time for worship services.

Prior to that, we were a twig snap away from getting the young fella his first bird of the year. It was a great hunt.

It started out great for me and turned for the worse as far as turkey killing went. Some of that was bad luck, some was stupidity on my part. Overall it was a good season. I heard gobbling most hunts and only had one hunt where I didn't see at least one turkey. The last few times out have been quiet, but trail cam pics reveal I still had 3 toms in the area. I also had 4 jakes show up towards the end of the season.

I killed my biggest bird this year, and called my first in to the gun. I Hit a tree shooting at #3 and misjudged the yardage on the 4th one I shot at. I passed a Jake at 18 yards, that was nearly full grown. He'll be a good one next season. I also almost got my nephew on his first tom this year, but he didn't realize if you can see the turkey he can see you and he moved and the turkey got outta of there.

if you like the trumpet then make you a wingbone call from your next bird. You were awful nice to let that tom win the battle instead of try again Sunday. :) Till next year

I'm still working on calls since last spring. Well I actually quit working on them when I moved last year. Been putting off finishing them up, and then I have a few wingbones in the freezer as well.

We could have a wingbone makin party ha

Saturday evening I sat in my blind and called from 6-7, I saw a Jake run through the pasture....the cows seems to hate the jakes. Sunday I went to where I saw him the night before, no intentions of shooting him, but as a starting spot. I hooted and a bird hammered...it wasn't him....I waited 5 minutes, got closer....hooted and the bird was close....so I crossed the fence and started going down the hill.....and had a hen putt! Well she flushed...and he didn't gobble anymore, so figured he flew away with them.....so I started back up the hill and he blew off the roost...probably less than 50yds away, first time this year I pushed one off......would have been nice to get one more, but I have gotten 3 already. I have one in the freezer to take to the taxidermist....not my biggest, but have always wanted to get one done.

This has been an amazing year for me, as it is my first full year home in 5 years....so I truly learned a lot about the birds, where they like to be....and became a fan of using a slate, especially my glass. I missed a couple birds this year, primarily due to length. I was using a 20gauge at the beginning of season. I believe I called 15-20 birds inside 50yds. I am putting a scope on my 12 gauge, the LBL shoot a great group, but hit low. I believe my eyes are failing me....and sometimes I don't think I follow thru like I should.

Next year my stick and string will be with me.
