I like the vest I have but I hate the pockets for the pot calls and strikers, I'm constantly having to check and make sure I haven't lost anything. I'm wanting to buy a different one with better and more secure pockets, any suggestions?

I've been recommended the Cabelas Tactical Tat'r II by several people. I'm going to pick one up closers to season.

I'm not a name brand fellow but after looking at several vests and trying them on I bought a scent blocker thunder chicken. I know scent blocker turkey vest lol. It's extremely light weight and not hot. More pockets than I need and it has d rings u hook a strap to on each shoulder and one to ur binos and they click on and of. Awesome way of carrying binos. That's the best one I could find last year.

The tactical tatr takes getting used to with the built in backrest but I like it. Not having to find a good tree to lean up against is worth it or no tree at all. Killed a bird a year or two back where I was sitting between some scrub cedars in perfect comfort.

Here is a few you could check out.

Don't personally own this one but I'm impressed with the features. It looks like an updated spin off of the Mossy Oak Limbhanger vest which isn't made anymore. This vest has a dedicated Thermacell pocket, a dedicated binocular pocket, striker pockets that close, hydration compatible, etc. We don't have an Academy close by but might be worth a look if you do.

Have hunted in this vest for about 10 years(prior to Bass Pro gaining patent) and can tell you that the ability to set up with or without a big tree and be comfortable is what I love about it. The pockets are laid out better on the Bass Pro version than the original Bucklick Creek vest, along with being water"proof"(resistant). The dedicated striker storage on the vest sucks but there are zippered pockets that can easily be used to store them. Hydration compatible and great decoy storage in back game bag. I haven't checked the difference in weight between this and the kickstand style vests but would have to think this is lighter.

Mossy Oak Super Elite is possibly the most popular vest ever produced. The seat pad is just ok. I just got one of these and am gonna use it early season to test it out. It's the only vest my Dad will wear. He swears by it and has killed a LOT of birds wearing the same one he'll put on again this year while totally disregarding my suggestion to get a new seat pad sewn in so he doesn't get numb butt due to his seat pad now being paper thin after all the years of use. Good striker storage that snaps closed. Enough room/pockets to store a family of 4....that might get heavy after a while but if you could teach one family member to cluck, one to purr, one to yelp, and one to cutt then that's really all you need.

Good luck!!

Is that comfortable? Always sat against a tree, so how does it compare to sitting with just the rest. What if it was a 30-45 minute sit?

It's just like sitting against a tree. You can sit as long as you want. My butt will get sore before any back issues which I've never had. The main thing is when you get it adjust the straps so that it fits you perfect. Needs to be fairly tight for it to work correctly. Not super tight but snug.
