Hello everyone. I am new to traditional bow hunting. I have a Fred Bear Super Mag 48 Recurve bow. It is 60 lbs at a 28 inch draw. I pull back to about 31 inches.

What weight broad heads do you recommend and why? I don't know the specifics on why to choose what. I am hearing different opinion on 100 grain and 125. Which do you prefer?

Furthermore, broad head brand suggestions would be appreciated as well. I have been leaning towards the magnus stinger buzz cuts.

first what type of arrows are you using? if you are using carbons i suggest a 500 spine series. carbons are stiffer and dont flex around the riser like you would need.
my set up for my 50# longbow is a 500 series with 175gr heads.

if you are shooting aluminum shafts, the 125gr heads should be ok with a 2016 or 2018 shaft.

Thanks. I am shooting gold tip carbons 5575 Woodgrain. I am still learning. I have tried 100 grain and 125. What is the advantage to going heavier, especially with a 175 grain? Thanks for your help.

carbon shafts are stiff. depending on how your shelf is cut ( off center or centered), your arrow may need more paradox (flex) around the riser to get a proper flight. more point weight weakens the spine to allow more flex. I suggest to try a 3555 shaft.
and try this over several shooting sessions. if you have a 'bad release' day, the arrow flight is affected so dont base the flight on a couple of shots.

Also the more weight the more kinetic energy so you will get better penetration. I shoot a total package of about 565 gr. 400 gpi arrows, 5 gpi weight tubes, and 125 gr broad heads.

Google "Stu Millers Dynamic Spine Calculator". This should get you real close to your proper spine and broadhead wieght for your set-up.
