Recurve vs longbow

Ok guys I am about to jump into traditional archery . I am as green as grass other than the info I have found online ( which is very mixed ) . Which one do y'all recommend ? I 6'3 and with a compound draw lenght of 30" . I have been told I need at least a 68 inch bow . There for a long bow would be best . I was looking to buy a samick sage from 3 rivers . I can get the whole set up for $200ish . But it's only 62" bow .
 
your draw will be shorter,29 at the most,maybe even 28,if so the 62 in recurve will be fine,28 in is a standerd length for measuring bows,you can go up a little or down a little on most factory bows,custom bows will be made for more precise measurements if you get a long bow i would go longer,64 or 66in.just dont over power yourself to start out,50lb will take anything around
 
Sagebrush's advise is good.
My first mistake was to set up my trad setup like I would a compound. Set your knowledge of the compound aside for shooting the compound and start learning trad setups.
If you can find someone local that shoots trad to help you, that will help you a lot.
Generally a recurve is easier to learn. I suggest trying a 62 or 64", 50#@28" for starters.
 
After more research I found samick Makes a sage and journey .both use the same riser but the journey has 2 inch longer limbs for a total of 64" vs 62" on samick . The limbs can easily be swaped around . So I believe I will go with a samick recurve . My plans are to order it with some lite limbs maybe 30 to 35 pounds . Then once my form is good move up to some 45 to 55# limbs . Which can be bought for $70 bucks at 3 river archery . First though I want to get my draw lenght check to see what it will be with a recurve and go from there . If I am going in the wrong direction feel free to stop me . Reason for leaning towards the smick is it has great reviews and price . $130 ish .
 
Brace yourself, its highly addictive & mountains of fun, never had a chance to shoot a long bow so cant offer any advice, these gents seem to have you on track anyway.

Have you checked Ebay for some recurves. I bought a 1967 Bear Tigercat on Ebay a few years ago and I love it. Bought it for $90. Bought a string from 3 Rivers and it was ready to shoot.

don't rush this step. settle into an anchor point first. this may take some time. try several. my AP with a compound was under my jaw with my thumb locked on my neck. my trad AP is my index finger in the corner of my mouth with a 3 under grip. each shooter is an individual and must find his (or hers) style. you will receive a lot of advise on this step. listen to all, try them and figure out what works for you.
 
Don't assume your draw length will be different from your compound my anchor and draw is the same.
so check it, however any bow 60" or longer should still be ok assuming you don't go to heavy too start with, make sure you can hit anchor and hold it there long enough to get comfortable with your new anchor point this time will get shorter as you get more familiar with your new anchor point but you need to be able to get to anchor easily in the beginning.

also good form is good form regardless of what bow you shoot.

The notion that you open up your stance or bend arms or not make a complete anchor point will just lead to short drawing, plucking, or outright target panic.

Samick will do a good job for you starting out just remember it will be the first bow of many after you are hooked you will never meet a bow you don't like!

My advice, 45#@28 and never stop pulling. Don't fall into that trap of "relaxing" at your anchor, find your anchor and pull through your shot, the hitting with it will come after you get your shot worked out. These things are way more addictive than compounds and they hold their value far far better.
