I have never tryed one and wanting to one this year.the gun will be a mossburg 535 any help would be great.I also need a choke the one that came with the gun is cheap

as far as choke see "best choke" thread below this one.

as far as scope or red dot it all comes down to what you prefer.

Scopes will give you magnification but can be a bit more bulky and hinder followup shots or target acquisition quickly, however they dont require a battery and are a bit stronger.

red dots allow for quick target acquisition and are much more low profile. They do however require a battery and are not as sturdy on the shotgun.

I personally went with a Mueller quick shot (red dot) as i didnt need the magnification and wanted something more low profile.

IMO if you go with a red dot site be sure to invest in a decent one to save you some time and money in the long run like a Mueller or Burris.

I'll try to make this shorter than the last time I posted it..
One year I put a red dot on my daughters .223. Deer came out broadside, sun was behind us there was no dot in the scope, the sun had made it disappear. we didnt get the deer because of it. I put a regular scope on and she got one that afternoon.. If you get one, make sure you set up where you are looking at the sun..lol..

I'm a little rough on my turkey gun so I will just stick with the bead. I would probably knock them out of adjustment.

i thought the same and trust me a i am super rough on guns, mine held true all year but it does take some time to get use to it.

i only went to it because my POI was low and left and i didnt like the look and feel of the rifle sights i had on it.

I wouldn't have a either on my turkey gun but I just bought my wife a red dot, as far as a choke I just use the extra full that came with my gun, so far I have kills out to 62 yards with it

I prefer the traditional "scope" over the red dots.
Am using a Nikon 1.5 - 4.5 x 20mm on mine.

Usually have it set on 1.5x magnification.
Even with that low mag, the gain in definition over naked eyes is spectacular ---- you can see the target much more clearly.

I'm with harvester. I'm just too dang rough to have a scope on my turkey gun. I like mine simple. I have some buddies that love their red dots though.

I thought I wanted a red dot so bought one and sighted it in. Missed a turkey the first time out with it. Took it off and sold it and went back to my regular fiber optic sights. Since turkeys are so unpredictable as they approach, I think scopes affect your peripheral vision. JMO

im going to go with my bead lol ... turkey huntin scope cuts down your vision on wats around you or a red dot just another thing to worry about in the turkey woods!

I like a scope. I have missed a few birds with plain sights because I wasn't following through. Put a Simmons Scope on and have not looked back. It's all about what you like and feel comfortable with
