Should I be worried about the release mechanism wearing out the bow string? I hook it on just below the nocking point and want to make sure it's not going to suddenly snap the bow string one day. Obviously I'm a noob... ;) thanks for any advice.

Unless your release has a burr on it there shouldn't be a problem. There are some advantages IMO to a D-loop from the shooting side and not wearing on the bowstring.

If you have never shot with a loop or messed with one and tie it on yourself. Be careful and make sure it will hold before you try and pull the bow back, or you will dang sure make sure you do on any you tie on from that point.
