New to bow hunting, probably won't attempt it this year but am getting the final touches on my gear together for next year. The only issue I am having is the release. I have a caliper release but am struggling with the wrist pull and trigger release. Thinking on it I realized I am looking for a grip when I attempt to release the trigger. Has anyone used anything like a Cobra Archery Pro Caliper Target Release or a Tru Ball T Handle?

Its all up what makes you feel comfortabel really. I bought a 25 dollar release that I have no problems with. I have thought about buyin a thumb release or "T handle" release but they are so dang expensive I just cant do it. Try one out and see how it works.

i am more comfortable and accurat with a wrist type but thats just me,if you buy a t-handle get atleast a midpriced one ive heard bad things on the cheap ones

I use a tru-ball adjustable wrist-strap caliper release that cost me about $30 years ago. I have tried multiple releases over the years and keep coming back to this one. I have it adjusted very, very short and use my middle finger with the trigger deep in my finger to help with feel and eliminate "punching".

When shooting the bow I found that I was pushing the bow looking for the release. We were only shooting two practice arrows but I was getting groups of about 2" to 3" at 20 yards...but was off my point of aim by 18" because of the push and the draw was not set for me either.

My thoughts were that I have been using pistol grips for years and subcutaneously I am looking for something to "fill my hand" when I "pull the trigger". Rather than fight it I thought I would find some way to compliment it. The cobra looks...cheap and awkward...I'm leaning towards the T Handle but as someone else suggested I am waiting till after the holidays and the first of the year when things start going dirt cheap.

I liked hand helds for target shooting but hated them for hunting. If you get one make sure it has a place to tie it to your wrist or something similar. My one trip to the woods with one and I just got settled in the stand, pulled the release out and lay it on my lap (mistake) when I went to pull my bow up I dropped the release to the ground. Back down the tree...release in pocket...back up tree. I pull the bow up and got the release attached and locked to my d loop. All was good til I somehow hit the trigger with my belly or leg when I stood to stretch my legs and down it went again. LOL I just packed it up and went home.

the stan sx3 is sweet but pricy...If you check out the archerytalk classy's there are some awesome deals just buy from the guys with good feedback carters are very sweet .you can get like new release for about 1/2 price.just click it to your'e d loop and let it hang till your'e ready for the shot!!!

I hunt with the CARTER "chocolate lite" and just hook it on D-loop and hang bow on E-Zhanger, i love not having release on my wrist to get in the way and make other noises if i happen to bump it against deer stand or something. I also carry a Stan T-handle in my pack just in case i drop chocolate which hasn't hapened in 3 years and 30 something bow kills.

FYI- yes their expensive but when you can put one in a box and send it back and get a brand new one 20 years later it was a good investment.

If you go to your local archery pro shop with your bow tell them your delima and they will probably let you test several models out to make up your mind......good luck and aim small miss small.

Monster11 -- You do realize you probably just jinxed yourself. Your next trip bow hunting you'll drop that release :-)

I've shot a bunch of hand helds just playing and seeing what I liked. I agree that the Carter's are the best. They have the best trigger feel of any out there. I shoot their index finger release the RX2...best index finger release out there IMO...best trigger on one anyway. I think TruBall has the Carter's beat in the back tension releases though. You couldn't make me deer hunt with a back tension release though. I like being able to smack that trigger in a split second LOL

I'm hunting with the quicke 1 plus!! but hunted with a stan last year with 0 problems excepet for those poor deer lol, carter is where its at for hunting!!!but I love the truball ht .very repeatable b.t. for me .....

Carter Like Mike here but it needs to go back to Carter for repair...I talked to Forest at Carter and he asked me to send it in. RElease is clicking when I draw the bow.

The TruBall HT is my favorite back tension release too. I tournament shot with a Carter Colby II for a while then discovered the HT a year or so ago and had to have one. No way I would hunt with it though!
