Is there anyone around the Murfreesboro area on here that has a reloading setup with some .243 dies? I would like to get into reloading but would like to see it done to make sure its something i want to tackle. I have been wanting to load up some 85 grain barnes bullets for my .243. Everything i've read says to seat them close to the lands on the rifle and i would like to find someone who knows how to do all this. Would be glad to buy some whoever some reloading components, dinner, ect for showing me!

Actually, Barnes bullets seem to have better accuracy if they are seated deeper. Most like to be seated close to the last ring showing for better accuracy.

Every rifle is differnt, only trial and error will you find the best bullet for your .243, My Savage 11 happens to shoot Sierra 100 grn Gamekings the best. But that is what makes reloading such a fun hobby.

At least you are wanting to start out right by finding out if you realy want to get into reloading. Along with watching someone doing it I would also buy a reloading book and there are some good ones to pick from.

Yes, Barnes has always recommended NOT seating their bullets where they'll be right up against the lands. You can get some pressure spikes and inconsistant velocity with Barnes bullets that way. Here's what the website recommends.

"We recommend seating these bullets .050″ off the lands {rifling} of your rifle. This length can be determined by using a Stoney Point Gauge or other methods. You do not have to seat the bullet at, or on one of the annular rings."

In learning how reload, I started out reading a Lyman Reloading manual cover to cover to understand the process. However, it sounds like you are wanting to understand how far to seat your bullets in order to touch the lands?

What you need that will simplify your process is a Hornady overall length gauge and comparator guage:

You place the bullet in the modified case and put it in your chamber. From there, you push the bullet until it touches the lands...You the lock the stick in place and remove the case/tool/bullet.

After removing the case and bullet, you measure it with the comparator gauges to give you the reading to the ogive of the bullet.

From there, you set your dies to that particular length and go from there.....The caveats are that you must be able to load them in your mag box and as others have said, Barnes bullets perform better deeper seated in the case. If you have other questions, PM me and I can explain. Youtube may show this process better than I can explain.
