I am real new to reloading but I am wanting to work up some loads for a 270. I would like to use IMR 4831 and some of the Hornady SST in 130, 140, or 150. Has anyone used these combinations or any suggestions. I will be using both Winchester and Hornady brass with Winchester primers. They will be used in a Winchester model 70 with a 22" barrel.

H4831, 270 Win, and 130 gr bullets go together like they were made for each other. Work up to 60 gr and see if you can maybe go up from there. Hornady lists 62 gr, and that is the load that Jack Oconnor used with great success. Some guns will handle it, some won't. RL-19 and RL-22 work well too. I don't have any experience with IMR 4831. Model70man uses RL-17 for his pet load in his 270.

My favorite load for my Model 70 .270 is 54.0 gr. of RL17 with a Federal Large Rifle Primer and a 130 gr. Hornady Interbond. Very accurate and my rifle gets 3200 fps.

Note: That is a book max load.

I use 140gr bullets in my Rem700, but have gotten good results with IMR4350, H4831, and RL17 using SGK BTSP, Ballistic Tips, and Accubonds. Don't hunt with the BTs anymore, as there was insufficient penetration and way too much meat damage.

130gr sierra prohunter or gameking over a healthy dose of h4831sc is all you will ever need in this state. This load is very accurate out of every rifle I ever put it in.

I got very good accuracy with every bullet I tried in my 270 with IMR 4350...4831 also has a great reputation, but I haven't tried it myself. Sierra Game Kings and Nosler BT shoot identically in my rifle, but I'm switching over to SSTs becasue they are just a tad bit better penetrating than the Nosler BTs, yet are about halfway between the Sierra and Noslers in price.

If you plan to use it for whitetails, I wouldn't go any higher than 140. The 130 gets very good trajectory, accuracy, and way more killing power than you need for whitetails.

i have loaded every thing there is for a 270

from the 1960's era speer 170 gn rn to the branes 180 gn orginal

every rifle is different all the above combos are good places to start and will work great for me

re19 was the powder of choice
one of my fav (cheap loads) 140 hndy interlock btsp over a max charge deadly on deer

130 nbt over h4381sc was good too

along with 140 and 130 accubonds over re19 or h4831 sc

130 gr NBT with some H4831SC is what I am shooting and its working really good (less than 1/2in groups at 100yds). Got some Accubonds I think I am gonna try out pretty soon.

Alot depends on the rifle...But I have consistant success with Savage and Remmy rifles in .270 with RL 22, CCI BR primers, and Hornady "standard" bullets.. 130 gr SP Interlocks and 140 Gr BTSP Interlocks.

Kills deer like lightening and groups at 100 can be covered with a dime.

I have also leaned that the tight Hornady pockets don't like Remington Primers.

I use 4831 with 130 grain Hornady interlock bullets. This combo is very accurate in my Remington rifle and every deer I have shot went down as if it had been struck by lighening.
