I've read about a lot of people who seat there bullets .010-.050 off the lands. Do you have to have a certain tool to know how far off the lands you are or do you just seat the bullet shallow and let the rifling seat it? Then seat it .010 or farther with the press then keep the same oal? I'm shooting a weatherby vanguard .270 win 130gr sst using varget and I've loaded from starting load to never exceed load in 1 grain increments and my smallest 5 shot group was 1.78" at 100yds and an overall length of 3.250" (same as factory superformance). With factory superformance I was shooting less than 2.5" groups at 200yds.

There are a hand full of ways to do it without buying anything but the tools Lade linked to do help. To crudely do it you can seat the bullet shallow then color the bullet with a sharpie, chamber the round and keep loading it deeper till you don't see the land marks on the bullet anymore. Thats how I did it when I first started.
