I've been looking at getting a 870 20ga. I've consider buying one of the 870 youth models from Wal-Mart for 289.99 but was looking online and see there is option of the Compact Jr for 329.99 and was thinking about getting it. The Remington 870 compact JR has 18.75" barrel instead of the 21". Has anyone looked at these guns and would it be a good fit for turkey hunting? I was going to get the Shurshot stock on it to get an adult fit along with Reddot sight.

I'd recommend the youth model with the 21 inch barrel. I killed my limit with one this year and will likely never hunt with a 12 gauge again.

I haven't used the 18 inch, but from what I've read they don't pattern as well and have more recoil.

I'm using a Carlson's .575 extended choke with Federal Hw 7s. I'm confident out to 45 yards.

Ditto. And make sure it has the adjustable length of pull (LOP) so you can tailor the fit to you, or whoever is shooting it. I'd also get the one that is already camouflaged so you don't have to spend that money down the road, assuming that is a priority of yours (getting gun dipped etc). My bud just picked one up from Walmart with 21" bbl and camo for approximately $379.99 + tax. That is the way to go in my opinion.

Bought my son a Compact Jr and he loves it. He is 9 years old and handles it well. Patterns very well out to 35 yards.
Excellent turkey gun

I'm looking at the plain wood stock youth model, putting the Shurshot stock and then putting the mossy oak bottomland wrap on the entire gun. I've got a burris fastflight 3 that I can put on it.
