Gentlemen.
I am in the market for a new turkey gun. Ive been using an 870 3.5 26" barrel for years, but im wanting a shorter barrel and many of my friends say a mossberg isnt as good at killing turkeys as the Remington. So i guess this is going to be a two part discussion. Mossberg or Remington? And second question is has anyone bought a new 870 turkey gun in the past couple years. Ive been told they are junk and cant keep a pattern with any load? True or false?

Killing turkeys is in the shooter not the shotgun. Remington vs mossbergs is like ford vs Chevy. Personally I think mossbergs are a pile of crap but that's just me. They prob put up bigger numbers on a pattern board but they are heavy clunky and not fun to shoot so that's the trade off. 870 is a killing machine as well but again the shooter is the important part not the name of the gun

I hunted with a Mossberg 835 for several years until last year and killed plenty of birds. Decided I wanted to change and bought an 870 then killed a couple of birds. As mentioned its the ford vs Chevy debate. I posted a pattern with my current setup in the pattern subforum above. If and when I buy another one I'll probably get a semi auto. Here's my 870.

I swore off mossbergs after getting stomped half to death by an old 500 my first couple seasons. I was a Remington man all the way until i came across another Mossberg 500 at bass pro last year that seemed a little underpriced to me . Paid 300 for it with an ATI tactical stock , 20" inch barrel and already fully camo dipped in mossy oak obsession. Figured what the heck for that kinda money i couldn't go wrong.
I have been very pleased with it so far and surprisingly it doesn't kick like a pee'd off mule. It is strictly a turkey gun for me though.

Like REN said though , it's ALL about the one behind the gun.
My next shotgun purchase will more than likely be a Stoeger or if im really lucky maybe an M2

I've had both. I hunt with I Mossberg 935, kicks GT .675 now and it patterns great with the Win. Longbeards and kills a limit of birds every year. 935 ' s are heavy but has a much lighter kick than 835. If I were gonna buy a new one today for under 1000.00, 935. If I had the money and wanted to stay American Win. SX3. But that Benelli Super Vinci is my dream gun.[SMILING FACE WITH OPEN MOUTH] but dead is dead. I've killed them with a single shot 12 ga. Full choke. It's a huge market and a racket like everything else. Spend what you can comfortably afford and not have remorse but most of all enjoy turkey hunting. Shucks give me a gravel flip, I'm Killin a bird and enjoy being in the woods!!!!! :super:

I have a 870 as well my choice in getting that was it came with the barrel to shoot sabot slugs for deer so it covered both for what I wanted to use it for.
