Had a couple Toms off the roost come to me mid season and put the bead on one and pulled the trigger expecting it to be my quickest hunt ever. But the gun didn't go off. Didn't have time to test it out and used my papaws model 12 the rest of the season until I got a change today to test fire some shells. I was using nitro turkey loads and every one of them shot. Anyone else had issues with a misfire that was shell related? Doesn't seem to be the gun but I've been using nitro turkey loads for years without issue. Even took a coyote that same morning 15 minutes after the misfire with a different shell and a turkey on the last day of season with the same shells in papaws gun.

Probably a light primer strike. That said, Rem Nitro is widely considered the worst turkey shell sold. So with or without the misfire, I would try something else.

Agree with Southern Sportsman, when patterned, Rem nitros are statistically some of the worst on the shelf. They may work for you though. I would start looking at all other primers from the shell that gun is shooting. Could unlikely be a primer malfunction, but my wager would be on the gun.

Agree about the Remington Nitro Turkey loads.
In all the guns/chokes I pattern tested them, they were consistently the least uniform patterns
at least among the major commercial brands of Remington, Winchester, and Federal.
For many years, I primarily used Winchester's turkey loads, later switching to Federal's.

With the "store-bought" brand shells, nothing today even approaches the Federal TSS turkey loads.

I can't say that I ever had a Remington turkey load fail to fire, but then, can same same about Winchester & Federal.
I did get a BIG bad batch of Remington brand .22 rimfire ammo,
and that experience totally soured me on ever again buying anything branded Remington.

I had a Remington Accu-Tip fail to fire this past deer season. Needless to say stopped using them and went back to my Winchester Partition Gold's

Well I shot the rest of my nitro turkey loads and a few other mixed in older shells with no issue. I think I'm going to give longboard XR's a shot next season. If the gun hadn't fired during the testing again I'd say it was the gun for sure. Figures the one shell I grabbed was the one that misfired.
