I have an Apex Atomic single pin sight. The Fibre Optic thread broke. I managed to get the thread relaced, but it's not nearly as bright.

Is there a trick to replacing these things? Can they be heated and then bent to shape to sit closer to the pin?

some fibers are brighter than others. the brightest i have seen are on viper sights. i think you can get replacement fibers from viper that will fit other sights.

I got some fibers off of archerytalk that were really really bright, even got a really bright blue one. I would look there, they made my G5s brighter than they already was

My question isn't where to buy the stuff (though I appreciate the tips) but the best way to install it.

My sight has the fibres wound four times around the pin guard, then a pretty tight anlge bend where it attaches to the pin. I can't get the fibre to lay flat against the back side of the pin. I still see the sides of the fibre off to one side of the pin, and it also shows cracks and breaks where it bends into the pin. If I lweave the fibre out away from the pin more, it's exposed to getting caught inthe brush.

Have you contacted apex. I think they are some how involved with Truglo. If there customer service is anything like Truglo's, they will probably send you another pin with the fiber already bent. I bought a truglo range rover that had a TFO pin in it. I didn't really like it and wanted a pin with fiber that went around the housing. I contacted them and thought I would have to buy one. They asked me what size I wanted and they sent me a whole new housing with the pin I wanted plus with a light on it, free. It's worth a shot if you haven't tried already.

Jakeway, I feel ya on this one. To answer your question, there isn't an easy way to go about this. It's a pain in the ars at best. I have a tru glo that seems similar to your sight except I don't think it's wrapped 4 times. It goes from a light source then around the frame of the sight once then makes a sharp turn to go through a pin hole. I guess the pin hole part is where you're having the problem. You don't need a special fiber optic to make that sharp turn. It will turn just fine. Once you got it through the sight hole get small needle nose pliers and pull on the fiber optic. This will actually stretch it, which is ok because it will retract back, and this is how you're going to get it to not have slack in it. Then, cut as much off as you can with a razor blade. The cut needs to be straight. Next, take a lighter a barely heat the cut end of the fiber optic. This puts that little bulb on the end so that it won't back out of the pin holder. When you release the fiber optic it will try to retract back but won't make it, therefore it should take up the slack. You may have to repeat that whole process if there is still too much slack. I hope this helps and if I've made anything unclear, which I'm sure I did because it's 6am, feel free to ask.

I think this helps. However, I think you mean to "push" the fibre optic witheth pliers from the back side of the pin, rather than pulling it through. Otherwise, I think the optic will snap back after you cut it and before you apply the heat.

Sometime in the future you may want to look for more flexible fibers. Any crack in the fiber messes up its ability to gather light. There is a very flexible fiber but I cannot for the life of me remember the name. I got mine from Rick at Viper.

Contact the manufacturer . I have replaced several sights with wraps provided from the manufacturer for free. They were just as bright as the original fiber optic .

Hi Radar. Doing well?

I found I had an extra pin from on older sight that fit the housing fine. It's one of those where the fibre is only as long as the pin, but it's a .029 instead of .019 so it's almost as bright.

This afternoon I was at full draw on a spikehorn, 30 yards broadside, just to see how the pin showed up, and it was OK. I counted to 5, whispered "bang! You're dead" and let off. The buck stood there a few more seconds then walked off.
