Let me ask. I've never thought about doing it but when your hunting private land and you see trucks stop and get out and hit a call, just what the *ell are these idiots thinking when they do it? Are they really dumb enough to think a gobbler will come jump up in the truck with them? I know people road hunt for deer but this being just my second turkey season what's their tactics?

Are you talking about people that dont have permission to hunt said land but still get out and call? If so, I have no idea...weird.

I've seen them do it on public land many times. You can hear the gravel popping underneath their tires then they'll stop and commenced to calling trying to strike one up. I guess you can cover a lot of area that way but it's seems lazy to me and a good way to educate the turkeys you are trying to hunt.

People do it constantly on the public and private areas I hunt. It actually works out for them sometimes. The tactic is to locate a gobbler and move in on it.

They do this alot up in Missouri. Drives me nutts when hunting up there. Had someone do it here this yr on one of my hunts. They even stopped at my truck and called from there.

When I used to hunt the TVA land around Tellico Lake, guys would call from their fishing boats when they were in a cove. I guess if they heard a gobble they would beach the boat and go after it. Kind of the same approach as road calling.

I would venture a guess due to human nature....that if it worked once.....they felt it should always work, especially if they are new at it.......shoot, why call, slam your car door, I have had that work before....but I try not to do it on purpose anymore :)P

I deal with the ATV ass hats here. They're too fat and lazy to walk or climb the mountains so they ride and call all freaking day. If the googans would just realize they drive by tons of birds they might kill one every now and then. Not to mention not be a blob of blubber if they got a little exercise. It's really annoying and the epitome of laziness

Probably the same people that are not physically disabled in the least bit but ride the motorized scooters around the grocery store.

The last time I hunted public land a guy stopped and started calling. We had 2 birds working and I know he heard us calling and he stopped calling and went to coughing and slamming doors. The birds never said another word.
Not saying its a bad strategy but, feels like you miss to much doing it.

#1 tactic in the Googan handbook. :) The Googan starter kit can be purchased at Walmart on clearance after season. Owl call, crow call, turkey thugs box call. Once on NF land, stop every 200 yards, or at any gated road or parked truck and run each of those calls in that order, regardless of time of day. Hoot is to resemble a "clock owl"(great horned owl), not a barred owl. Crow "caw" is to be three short, monotone burst's, repeated three separate times at 5 second intervals. And last but not least, the turkey thug special shall run no less than 18 consecutive assembly yelps, as loud as possible, followed by a single cluck. Re enter truck or ford mercury, slam door, drive another 200 yards or until 8:00 am, which ever comes first. Head back to the house because the turkeys are just not gobbling or, and my favorite, they must be done  These idiots are the reason there is no shortage of gobblers for me to hunt in South Cherokee NF. For this, I applaud them and their ignorance ;)
I knew you wouldn't disappoint [emoji3]

I'd be paying close attention for a drop off, especially if they can't see your truck...

I do. Both of my big spots are 600 acres a piece that I alone have permission. So I can't watch it all but calling by somebody's truck parked at a gate that has hunting stickers all over the back windshield I just can't grasp the idiocy of what their thinking.

I don't see why they waste their time with crow calls, owl calls and turkey calls. I prefer to drive around with a fog horn. With a fog horn, you only have to stop every 1,000 yards. It's much more convenient.

I was working a bird at LBL on one of two parallel ridges that ran away from the road. I had a guy drive down the road calling, heard my bird, and worked his way up the hollow between the ridges, and then shot the bird as he was strutting just over the ridge top from me. I had been working with him for an hour. Pissed me off but I guess it happens.

It's just what people do. Very popular on timber owned leased clubs in South AL.
I myself do not like it, I think it will shut a turkey up and make em smart quick.

I have been on both sides of this, I have been walking along and hear a gobbler, go to him and kill him not knowing someone else was "working" him and have had people do it in turn to me. Its like me and my buddies always say, the worst thing a bird can do in LBL is gobble. :) :)

There is so many turkeys out there though that if the one I am after dies, I will pick up and go for a walk. 9 times out of 10 you will be on a different bird in a few hours...Love LBL.

I was hunting the river bottoms where I duck hunt one day watching 7 strutters about 500 yds away figuring out my move to make, bout 11 oclock or so.. I hear a boat coming and sure enough he stops, cuts his motor off, does 2 series of yelps, none of the gobblers respond, he starts his motor up and leaves.. He pulled up probably 250 yds to the left of them, if he would've just gotten out of his boat and at least peeked his head over the bank he would've seen what he was missing.. Well he didn't and I proceeded to sneak along the bank of the slough to my right as they were taking there time getting over there to fly across the slough.. They got to 30 yds and I ended up going home with a big ol gobbler because he was too lazy to get out of his boat and simply LOOK! I mean I'm sure that works every now and then but I learned a lesson I wont soon forget..
