Yesterday despite being close.....Toms went with the hens....I guessed that they would come back to where they had been the previous night. Luckily I saw them roost again last night before dark.
This morning I went in early, hoping not to bump any birds off of the roost. As I got part way into the woods I realized I was under the roost.....it was pointless trying to get out of eye sight of roosted birds, so I sat down and waited for the sun to rise.
I had 4-5 different birds gobbling....one was on a tree about a 100 yds away. I then noticed another tom 50 yds from him. The lead hen was directly over my head.....she was vocal. I decided not to call, just let her do her thing and not move. One bird flew down....then another.....20yds from me, but hard to my right. When he walked behind a tree....I adjusted, hoping the lead hen wouldn't throw a fit. He came back around the tree and I clobbered him. 615am.
2 year old bird, 8" beard, 3/4" spurs.
Now I can get some sleep
