Why is the sec headquarters in Birmingham? Why is the sec media days etc... there. One of the lead officials of the sec Al ford is from Alabama . Use to ref in bama practices and stuff. I Just dont like the fact re plays and decisions have anything to do with Birmingham when Bama is playing. If I where a coach or A.d. in the sec . we would have a problem and there would be some rotation .

Probably because Birmingham is pretty close the the geographic center of the SEC, plus it has pretty decent airport and interstate highway access. Just about any large city in the SEC footprint is going to be in the shadow of one of the member schools.

I imagine that there are about 100 people working at the SEC HQ. Uprooting 100 families, finding new facilities and going through the whole hassle of moving every few years would be an expensive and painful experience to solve a problem that probably doesn't even exist.

Memphis would be just as "central".

In Birmingham out of the original 12 SEC schools, I didn't count MO or TX since they came in late and office was already in Birmingham, your farthest school is Florida at 340 miles. You have a few more; South Carolina, Kentucky, Arkansas that are over 300 but within the 340. So a 340 mile radius will catch all schools.

From Memphis, your farthest school is still Florida but at 588 miles but then you have several more that are way out there. SC is well over 500 miles, GA is almost 400, Knoxville is 350, LSU is almost 350, KY is 360. So you have half of the schools that are farther away from Memphis than your single farthest school is away from Birmingham.

These distances are by way of the crow and are not highway miles.

So Birmingham is by far more central than Memphis.

Actually looking at it, I don't think you could get a more central place than Birmingham. Gainesville to Little Rock is 680 miles, so the middle is 340 which is what Gainesville is to Birmingham. Little Rock to Birmingham is 320 miles. I looked and tried to come up with a more central place on the map and I couldn't come up with one.

atlanta would be the "only" other city to consider. even then how long would it take fans to cry of the georgia bias

No one in Birmingham should have any input on ANY SEC games. You already have a replay official AT the game, let him do his job.

I would be in favor of doing away with automatic reviews completely. Give each coach one challenge flag, and leave it up to them. If they use it, and are successful, they keep it, if not, it's gone.

I agree... I think it would be good for the game.
