A 40 yr old man died Wednesday afternoon on KY Lake. He put in his kayak at Grey's Landing and apparently fell out of the yak latter. A passer by heard calls for help and saw him and called for help. By the time they got there he was unresponsive. Hypothermia. He did not have his life preserver on but was holding on to it which was on the yak.

First off the water temp was 41 degrees. It was windy. He wasn't wearing his life preserver. Fishing by himself in a yak in the middle of winter on KY lake. No common sense used at all.

I own a set on kayak and fished them for years. You ain't gonna catch me on Ky Lake n the middle of winter. I wear my preserver whenever I am in it. You can flip out of it with little effort if you do not stay aware of your situation.

I don't care what the tv fishing shows are showing use some common sense if you are gonna do it.

Goodness that's awful. I hate it for his family. I have fallen out of mine in early March and had a buddy fall out in January before. Both scary situations but we made it through just fine because we were smart about it. We weren't fishing alone and we both had our life vests on.

Obviously PFDs are of great importance, but I don't think it would've saved his life. He died from hypothermia. Not drowning. Going out in an unstable craft in winter with cold temps (water and air) cost him his life. :(

I agree, probably wouldn't have mattered much, but was still unwise for him not to be WEARING flotation under these circumstances.

We've all done stupid stuff.
Some of us have just been luckier than others.
Prayers for this man's family.
