saddle mount

I'm gonna put a scope of some type on my wife's compact 870
I'm thinking I'll go with a saddle mount , anyone here use one ? Just looking for pro's and con's i guess, i've never used one.
Or would i be better off having her gun drilled and tapped?

I have one on my 870. Works fine. Be sure and round back edges. They are kinda sharp from factory.

I've had one on my 870 for years. No problems at all. My son's 870 is drilled and tapped. Drilled and tapped is a little cleaner but either one is functional. The B square is aluminum so it adds almost no weight.

I had a b square on a Mossberg 500 and 835. Worked just fine.

Is there a rib on the barrel? There are several options that bolt to the rib that might work...lighter too.

I mounted a red dot on my .870 yesterday using this mount made by weaver, I like it pretty good and it's easy to put on.
