I was going through my camera pulls from the last couple of months and pulling all the pics of bucks that are 2+ into a single folder to browse. This buck stood out to me:

Now granted, this pic was from the end of May, and as far as I can tell I do not have any pics since. Hard to tell at that point, but it looks like he will have a knarly non-typical rack based on the size of those bases and the trash already coming off of them.

He reminds of this buck from a couple of years ago.....same buck?

I got pics of this buck in summer of 2011, then all through summer of 2012 up until September...then nothing unil Jan 2013 a few weeks after the season. Nothing since. Does it look like the same buck....if so he would be very old now.

I wish I had more pics from later this summer to see what is rack is doing. The dates on all pics are correct. Look how far along he was on 3 June 2012...almost the whole rack grown out. I had a buck growing in velvet in early March that year, it may have been him and that might explain the early growth that year. I would think the growing period for the same buck year to year would be similar. But he may not have grown out much this year anyway.

Did not get any further pics last year, so I don't know how that rack turned out.

Here's a few more pics from this year. If this is the same buck, he must be ancient. He looked mature three years ago. I wonder what causes the crazy rack....one testicle? Back in 2012 I got pic of a buck with several inches of growth already in March...wonder if it is this buck with some hormonal imbalance or something. Never seen this guy in person. Only get a couple pics a year and none in 2013 except one after the previous season.

most of the 'crazy rack' deer are actually from having the pedicle injured the prior year from fighting/ breaking off one side into the pedicle. We have a ton of deer that break off racks, and they often have a deformed side the following year

Pedicle damage results in permanent deformed antler, right?

This looks like it could be pedicle damage.....but it would seem odd to have both pedicles damaged though.
